Local Station Board candidate Chris Farell’s view on the management change at WBAI. This has been a contentious issue as long term Program Director Bernard White was fired. On one side, which is reflected in Farell’s opinion, Bernard White had failed to adapt WBAI to changes in the 21st century and was unable to generate the funding which is vital to the station’s existence. On the other side which believes Bernard White was unfairly dismissed with overtones of racism involved.

Don Debar discusses the Pacifica Foundations decision to terminate Bernard White as Program Director. Those who support Bernard White believe he best reflects the interests of the WBAI community while others claim he has narrowed the community thus driving WBAI to the brink of financial ruin. Don Debar is part of the Take Back WBAI coalition which is fighting these changes. They contend that Bernard White has broadened the reach of WBAI and created a more diverse programming reflective of the special needs of the WBAI community. In their view, the new changes are part of a plan to make WBAI corporate in orientation.
