The Enduring Appeal of the New Riders of the Purple Sage
Here at Videopooem we were able to catch up with the New Riders of the Purple Sage at B.B. King’s Bar and Grille in New York City. The band, which emerged from the psychedelic rock scene in San Francisco, California in 1969, is playing stronger than ever. Their roots which can be traced back to the early 1960s folk/bohemian/beatnik scene in San Francisco, where future Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia often played gigs with like-minded guitarist David Nelson. It was from this time they acquired a loyal following which has stayed with them to the present day.
