WBAI Listener thoughts on management change…

Local Station Board candidate Chris Farell’s view on the management change at WBAI. This has been a contentious issue as long term Program Director Bernard White was fired. On one side, which is reflected in Farell’s opinion, Bernard White had failed to adapt WBAI to changes in the 21st century and was unable to generate the funding which is vital to the station’s existence. On the other side which believes Bernard White was unfairly dismissed with overtones of racism involved.

At heart of the debate is where the station needs to evolve to. Those supporting Bernard White believe the those who deposed him want to make the station corporate and dismiss the needs of the WBAI community. This view is counted by Chris Farrell who says the lack of fundraising shows the Bernard White had same WBAI’s outreach to narrow. He cites how WBAI had to constantly be bailed out the Pacifica Foundation.
